Shepperton, village life on the river.
A proper village high street, the Thames Path at the end of it, and the islands in between — the stretch of river we know better than anywhere.
A close-knit village with the Thames on its doorstep
Shepperton keeps a traditional high street — two supermarkets, a library, opticians, hairdressers and a good spread of restaurants and cafés — with the railway terminus at its northern end and direct services into London Waterloo. Through the village runs the Thames Path, with flat cycling routes on to Windsor, Hampton Court and Richmond, and the June village fair, three churches and three local schools keep the community genuinely close-knit. Shelley, Peacock and Rider Haggard all wrote here, drawn by the same river that still shapes the place today.
For us it's more than a patch on the map: Robert King lived on one of the Shepperton islands with his family for many years, and the village and its waterways — Pharaoh's, Hamhaugh and Desborough islands, the sailing club, the moorings — are where much of our riverside work happens.
